A little more about me and how I began my journey with Christ, CrossFit and selling headbands…
I became a Christian at the age of 7. I grew up in a Christian home, but when I accepted Christ as MINE it really began to change my life and it all of a sudden became real. It became real in the fact I was beginning to realize that my goal in life should be to bring more praise to God and build others up. The Bible calls us to do this through Him, through His mercy, and through the hope that he gives me each day (see Lamentations 3:22-24). My love of CrossFit became bold at the age of 12, and four years later I love it even more every day that I get a chance to work out. Never have I ever seen a sport that you can turn up your favorite music so loud you can’t hear yourself breathe, lay on the ground after the hardest workout ever, and be so sore you waddle (like can you show me how to walk normal, please)… and then say, “Hey, that was great. Let’s do it again!” We travel for this sport, going around to different gyms teaching people how to do better with their jump roping skill while also giving them an opportunity to purchase a custom jump rope that is built in front of them. Since we travel so much and I was approaching the age that I needed to start seriously thinking about saving some money for a car and other adult responsibilities, my dad and I began to brainstorm some things that I could sell at the booth. We tossed around a few ideas and headbands became my favorite of them all, so I went with it. In August of 2016 I made the jump (no pun intended 😉 ) to invest some of my savings account to buy my first order of headbands. This was the start of my company, Six:19 Collections. I have always loved the Bible verse Hebrews 6:19 which states, “We have this hope as an anchor for our souls, firm and secure in Christ Jesus.” I am so eager to see where this journey will take me!
So now that you know a little more about me and my life, stay tuned for future blog posts.
Next week I will begin a series talking about the suffering, strength and love that we see in correspondence with CrossFit and Christ. At the end of each post, I’ll be leaving you with a scripture or scripture passage to meditate on and study for the week, as well as a discussion question that will link to my Six:19 Instagram and Facebook page. I hope to see all of you there!
Anchors Away, Sam
