Hello, my friends! It’s Monday, and I can’t believe it is already here! The last post I touched a little on the topic of L O V E.
I mentioned that I felt it was a quite overused word and one that no one can truely know the depths of it, for OUR GOD IS LOVE.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres and,”
And my favorite part of the passage!!!!!
“Love never fails!” (NIV)
Please, do not take this out of context. The author of these amazing words is describing the love which is true. The love that doesn’t fail acquires ALL of the attributes from vs.4-7! So, read it as “GOD’S love never fails.”
Let’s dig in and see even more how amazing our God is !!!!
P A T I E N C E. Not an easy task, at least for me. Some are given the spirit of timidity and have the gift to have patience and an easy-going spirit that others (I) do not have quite as much of. Anyone else shooting those hands to the sky saying “I need help with this, please. K thanks, God!!” Anyways, love is patient. If we insert that definition.. love has the capacity to tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. For some, this is easy. They can stand in the Ingles line on Labor Day weekend for 10 minutes and still not get your three groceries out of the store and not get antsy. Some can teach a Sunday School class full of 3-7 year olds and not raise their voice one time. And still, there are others that are able to hurt so bad on the inside and never tell a soul, riding it out with a smile the whole. Entire. Time. If you look at situations that invlove love (friendships, witnessing, comforting family, etc.), patience is ALWAYS needed, and thank goodness i have God to cover for me on this. God is patient and does not fail, so, His love is patient and does not fail. Like ever. Never will.
K I N D N E S S. Love is kind. Love has the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate. (Excuse the cheesy definitions. You know ya love ’em.) With out kindness and patience, our witness for the love of God is kinda thrown out the window. I have to think of it this way: if you’re not on good terms with someone, you’re generally not showing them very much love. Kindness has been lost. If you were kind to them, love would appear and you’d be on better terms. Therefore, my God is kind. His love us kind and it does not fail me. We are on good terms.
Love does not E N V Y , B O A S T , be S E L F S E A K I N G. I’m going to combine these three, they’re somewhat similar and go together. Love does not have a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions or qualities (envy). Love does not talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions, or abilities (boast). Take it like this: love isn’t self centered. When I’m in need of love (100% of the time), or when I really realize it and i ask God to show his love to me more clear, I find myself to be self-centered and most often shove this negativit to the side and deny it. So, we could say love is God-centered and have this whole topic covered, right? Almost!!!
Last few here:
Love always H O P E S, T R U S T S, and P E R S E R V E R E S.
Love has a feeling of desire or expectation for a certain thing to happen (hopes). Aka, God’s will; one of the hardest things to pray for. Most of the time we have something else planned, we are hoping for the wrong thing. Our love is centered on the wrong thing: US! Center your love on God and His word, hoping for His will, ALWAYS. It’s so hard. Who ever said it wouldn’t be?
Love has a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something (trusts). I’m going to keep this one short and sweet: trust in the Lord always. Don’t just be hopeful that your life will display the love of God’s will for your life. Trust it.
Love will continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success (persevere). Woohoo. This is tough, like super duper tough. I want it all done quick, make it snappy. Perseverance can be that, but when we hear of this being applied, at least for me, it doesn’t mean it will be a short ride. It typically means to keep pushing through that long road ahead, even if you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. GOD will shine through and equip you with this, but you must be hopeful of his will, trust it, and most of all, be WILLING to PERSEVERE.
Do you have all of these? Why yes, but not all at the same time. Only God does, no matter how hard we try. Notice that the verse does not have the word “or” in it one time, but the word “and” is included boldly at the end.
It takes perfection to have all of these at once, and again, only the one true God has that. So, love never fails IF it is God’s love. You can love, yes, true love. But, it is going to fail. You can pick it back up after the “break” or “pause” in that time of life. God’s love doesn’t so that, though.
I apologize for the lengthy-ness of this, guys! I got on a lot of rabbit trails, but those are fun. It was heavy on my heart and I’ve been praying this week how to word all of this and which scripture to use to display it to you the way God wanted me to. Please know, these are not my words, they are God The Most High’s!!!!
If you read this whole thing, hats off to you. If not, I pray that you received the exact words you needed. Have a wonderful week! Dive into God’s love sometime, it’s always available and reliable! I challenge ya!
As always, Anchors away!
